COVID-19 Guidance for Mokena Business Operations
The practice of social distancing in indoor public places is a centerpiece of the new executive order, which states that your employees must be supplied with appropriate face coverings and required to wear them where maintaining a six-foot social distance is not possible at all times. At the same time, your store or place of business is categorized as a public place, and as such, your customers are required to wear face coverings while inside it.
As a business owner and/or manager, you may be wondering—in light of Governor Pritzker’s most recent executive order—how best to manage operations and protect the health of your customers and employees over the coming month.
Should you encounter a situation with a customer where he or she is not practicing appropriate social distancing and/or not wearing a face covering, we encourage you to make every attempt to work with that customer to achieve an amicable resolution. Should you be unable to reach such a resolution, you may contact the Mokena Police Department at (708) 479-3911, and an officer will be dispatched to offer assistance.

UPDATES REGARDING BUSINESS ASSISTANCE:
Advantage Illinois Loan Program – Offered by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO). This program is offered at the state level for funding and has a rolling application process. More info here.
CARES Act Funding available through Will County – Will County recently announced it is offering a 2nd round of grants with expanded eligibility criteria for businesses with annual revenue up to $5 million and those that have fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees. More info can be found here.
Disaster Loan Assistance from the SBA – Federal Disaster Loans for Businesses, Private Nonprofits, Homeowners, and Retailers. Info from the SBA can be found here.
Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program – This program provides small businesses with working capital loans of up to $2 million that can provide vital economic support to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they may be currently experiencing. Borrowers can request an emergency advance of $10,000 within 3 days of submitting the application, and do not have to repay the advance should they be denied a loan. More info here.
Emergency Loans Small Business Guide and Checklist prepared by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated $350 billion to help small businesses keep workers employed amid the pandemic and economic downturn. Known as the Paycheck Protection Program, the initiative provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to small businesses. Importantly, these loans may be forgiven if borrowers maintain their payrolls during the crisis or restore their payrolls afterward. More info here.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) – This provides 39 weeks of unemployment benefits to individuals not eligible for regular unemployment, like independent contractors and sole-proprietors. More information for Governor Pritzker’s Office can be found here.
Paycheck Protection Program – The Small Business Administration (SBA), in consultation with the U.S. Treasury Department, reopened the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for First Draw PPP Loans the week of January 11, 2021. SBA began accepting applications for Second Draw PPP Loans on January 13, 2021. SBA is currently accepting Second Draw PPP loan applications from participating lenders. More info here.
